What are Parabens and are they Safe for Cosmetics

It's time to talk about parabens.

What are parabens?

Parabens are a family of chemicals used as preservatives in cosmetics to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria and mold, in order to protect both the products and consumers. They may be found in many beauty products, from hair care to skincare products. But are they safe?

Origins

Parabens were created in the 1950s. It is safe to say a lot has changed for the better since then. Parabens are a group of synthetic compounds commonly used as preservatives in a wide range of health, beauty and personal care products.

What do Parabens do to your body?

The concern with these chemicals is that scientific studies suggest that parabens can disrupt hormones in the body and harm fertility and reproductive organs, affect birth outcomes, and increase the risk of cancer. They can also cause skin irritation.

What kinds of products contain parabens?

Parabens are used in a wide variety of cosmetics, as well as in foods and drugs. Cosmetics that may contain parabens include makeup, moisturizers, hair care products, and shaving products, among others. Many major brands of deodorants may contain parabens.

None of the Restoor Skin Essentials skincare products contain Parabens. A healthy choice we made with our consumers in mind!
